BGSU men’s soccer has reportedly added another piece from the transfer portal— acquiring former Long Island University midfielder Joshua Saavedra, according to KickABallPod on X.
Saavedra played two seasons with the Sharks, appearing in 38 games with 36 starts, scoring eight goals and eight assists, including seven goals in his rookie season in 2023.
The Miami, Fla., native was the 2023 Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Year and a First-Team All-NEC selection. He was a part of a Sharks squad that won the 2023 NEC Men’s Soccer Tournament championship.
In 2024, Saavedra was ranked 67th in the nation in Top Drawer Soccer’s preseason Top 100 Division I players list. He would go on to start all 20 matches for LIU during the season.
Saavedra played with the Inter Miami academy in 2019 and then played with the second team in 2020 and 2021.
This past summer, Saavedra played with senior midfielder Andrew Shaffer with the Des Moines Menace in the United Soccer League (USL) League Two.
Saavedra is the seventh Falcon head coach Eric Nichols has signed through the transfer portal this offseason. Joining goalkeeper Enzo Gil, midfielder Bradley Poppell, and defenders Aiden Messinger, Tim Koczulap, Giovanni Soares and Caio Tascheto.
