BGSU men’s soccer junior goalkeeper Enzo Gil has been awarded the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Defensive Player of the Week for his performances against IU Indy and Butler.
Gil, who recently transferred to Bowling Green after two years at Lindenwood, made seven saves in his Orange and Brown debut against IU Indy. Then followed it up with a career-high eight saves against Butler.
After just two games in the regular season, Gil is ranked third in the nation and first in the MVC in saves per game with 7.50. He is first in The Valley in total saves with 15, and second in save percentage at .882%.
The Brazilian goalkeeper earns this honor for the first time in his career, after winning the starting goalkeeper job after the graduation of former Falcon Brendan Graves.
Gil and Bowling Green’s next contest is against rivals Wright State in the I-75 Cup on Thursday, Aug. 28, in Dayton. Kick-off for the match is set for 7:00 p.m.
