BGSU women’s soccer (3-1-1) will head back on the road on Thursday, Sept. 4, at 4 p.m. for the final road non-conference match of the 2025 season against the Robert Morris Colonials (2-2).
The Falcons will enter the game with confidence after back-to-back impressive results, with a 4-1 victory over Detroit Mercy and a 0-0 draw against Cincinnati that made an undefeated second week of the season.
On the other hand, RMU enters their second straight game against a Mid-American Conference (MAC) opponent after a 2-0 loss in Ypsilanti that handed EMU their second win of the year.
The match will mark the fourth time BG has played a Horizon League opponent in 2025, going 3-0 in those games and outscoring their opponents 7-2.
Scouting Bowling Green
After going into the weekend at the top of the MAC standings, a draw against UC allowed the Akron Zips to tie the Falcons for first thanks to their 2-0 victory over Green Bay. A win against RMU would bring the Falcons firmly back in the lead, as the Zips don’t play another match until Sept. 12.
The highlight of a 0-0 draw on Sunday came in front of the Falcon net, as sophomore goalkeeper Payton O’Malley left it all on the field, making seven saves on 12 total Bearcat shots in a performance that brought her to the top of the MAC goalkeeper rankings with a conference-best .600 goals against average and a .875 save percentage in five matches.
On the other side of the ball, Falcon forwards Ellie Pool and Emma Stransky earn spots in the top 10 MAC scorers ranking with two goals each, tying them for fourth place in the conference.
Junior midfielder Michelle Hochstadt’s two assists tie her for second in the conference with nine over players after she earned assists in back-to-back games against Cleveland State and Detroit Mercy.
The Falcons are 1-0 on the road on the season after a 4-1 win over Detroit Mercy last Thursday, and 3-0 against Robert Morris all-time while outscoring them 14-4. Three of those goals came in the first BG hat trick in program history by former Falcon Krista Shamblin, who scored all three goals in a 3-1 victory over the Colonials on Halloween night in 1997.
Previewing Robert Morris
The Colonials enter Thursday’s match after beginning the 2025 season 2-2, with losses at home to open the season against Navy, and most recently against EMU on Sunday. Back-to-back shutout victories over Southern Indiana and Canisius came at home, and after their match with the Falcons, RMU will head back on the road to conclude non-conference play against SFU and UMBC.
Two of RMU’s three 2025 goals have come off the foot of sophomore midfielder Madison Hurst, who scored one in each of the Colonials’ victories.
Junior goalkeeper Emma Cameron was busy in Thursday’s match with the Eagles, making 10 saves out of 12 shots on goal and 22 total shots by the EMU offense. Cameron ranks third in the Horizon League with a 1.250 goals against average and a .783 save percentage.
After finishing fourth in the Horizon League in 2024 and exiting the conference tournament in the semifinal thanks to a 7-0 loss to Milwaukee, the Colonials were picked to finish fourth once again in the 2025 Horizon League Coaches Preseason Poll.
Head coach Michelle Rick enters her second season at the helm of the Colonial squad after spending two years as the head coach at the University of Findlay, earning a 22-11-7 record in 40 games as an Oiler.
