BGSU men’s soccer (4-4-2, 0-1-0) leaves Cochrane Stadium following a 2-0 win against Northern Kentucky to head on the road to face Belmont (5-0-4, 0-0-1) in a Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) matchup under the lights in Nashville, Tennessee, on Friday, Oct. 3, 2025.
Falcon Media Sports Network’s Lucas Kleimeyer will have a recap of the contest on bgfalconmedia.com.
MATCHUP HISTORY
The Falcons and Bruins have only faced off three times before this matchup, with Belmont recently joining the MVC in 2023.
In those matches, the Bruins lead the series with two wins in Nashville, while the Orange and Brown picked up the win last year at Cochrane Stadium. Each game has also been decided by one goal.
Both Belmont and Bowling Green are looking to pick up their first win in MVC play this season.
SCOUTING BOWLING GREEN
The Falcons are coming off a two-match home stint, splitting their time at Cochrane Stadium with a 3-0 loss to Evansville in MVC play and, most recently, a 2-0 victory against Northern Kentucky.
The story of the season continues as senior forward Trace Terry and junior forward Bennett Painter are still the only two Falcons to score for the Orange and Brown.
In their most recent match against Northern Kentucky, both Terry and Painter found the back of the net. Terry scored off a penalty kick, while Painter was set up with a nice assist from junior midfielder Anthony Hernandez.
The most interesting story from the Orange and Brown’s previous matchup was the first collegiate start of redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Jason Ball.
Ball kept his composure throughout the match, tallying five saves and a clean sheet to earn his first shutout performance.
SCOUTING BELMONT
The Bruins have yet to lose a game this season, combining five wins with four ties. Their only match in the MVC has been a 1-1 draw with Western Michigan, which was the most recent match of the season.
Belmont and Bowling Green have three common opponents, with both teams taking wins over Wright State; the Falcons split a series against Bellarmine and Northern Kentucky, while the Bruins tied both opponents.
The Bruins’ leading goal scorer, redshirt junior forward Brock Kiper, has four goals on the season, including their goal to draw Western Michigan. Kiper has also started and played in all nine matches this season.
Belmont graduate student goalkeeper Grant Calvert has started all nine matches, allowing only five goals so far this season. Calvert has an 83% save percentage for the Bruins.
FALCON FOUR PLAYERS TO WATCH
Ryko Bodurov #7, Midfielder – Bowling Green
Bodurov has had his first two starts of the season in the home stretch against Evansville and Northern Kentucky. With the formation the Orange and Brown have been running, Bodurov can not only facilitate the offense but also find the back of the net.
Andrew Shaffer #8, Midfielder – Bowling Green
While Terry and Painter are the only two Falcons to score so far this season, similar to Bodurov, Shaffer should find himself with more opportunities to score. Shaffer also finds himself taking the majority of corner kicks for the Falcons, giving him more chances to contribute.
Grant Calvert #1, Goalkeeper – Belmont
The Falcons’ biggest kryptonite is not being able to pick up enough goals, so if Calvert can keep as close to a clean sheet as possible, the Bruins will have a much higher chance of winning the matchup.
Parker Forbes #2, Defender – Belmont
Forbes has started every game this season, scoring a goal and getting an assist. While on the defensive line, it is less likely for him to find another goal, but his presence in the back line is necessary to help Belmont.
