BGSU men’s soccer (5-6-2, 1-2-0) viewed their home matchup against the Bradley Braves (2-4-5, 0-1-1) as a must-win situation. BG entered the night in last place in the Missouri Valley Conference after opening their conference schedule with back-to-back losses.
The home match was also preceded by senior night recognitions, with Amer Dedic, Andrew Shaffer, and Trace Terry being honored as the three graduating seniors on the team.
In the first half of the game, however, it seemed as though the Braves were going to spoil the evening for the home crowd. They turned one crucial defensive mistake into a 1-0 halftime lead.
In the second half, however, BG looked like their usual self.
For Trace Terry, “usual” means scoring not once, but twice.
“I think we’ve learned our lesson enough times,” Terry said. “I felt something different when we went into the halftime tent. We all believed, and the second half really showed that.”
The senior forward scored twice in the second half. The first is a jaw-dropping equalizer assisted by midfielder Ryko Bodurov. The second was a go-ahead penalty kick earned from a Bradley foul.
In each of his three career matchups against the Braves, Terry has scored a brace en route to a victory for the Orange and Brown.
“I know this is my fourth year and I’m getting old,” Terry joked, “but tonight was really special and I’m glad I could get a win with this awesome crowd and community.”
The Falcons will carry momentum into their next match against the Drake Bulldogs, a Missouri Valley Conference opponent, next Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.
