BGSU women’s tennis team opened its Pennsylvania road trip with a 6-1 victory over Division II Slippery Rock University on Saturday, Oct. 11.
The Falcons swept all three doubles matches to secure the opening point and went on to win five of six singles matches.
In doubles play, the duo of Libby Blair and Kiera Taylor earned a 6-2 win. It was followed by sophomore Konstantina Adamopoulou and senior Leticia Fonseca claiming a 6-3 victory to clinch the doubles point. Junior Tia Clemens and sophomore Lucia Gaio completed the sweep with a 6-1 win.
Bowling Green carried that momentum into singles play. Clemens dominated at the top of the lineup with a 6-0, 6-1 win, while junior Qianyu Liu and Adamopoulou each secured straight-set victories. Gaio added another point for the Falcons, winning 6-2, 6-0.
At the No. 2 singles position, Taylor rallied from a set down to defeat Slippery Rock sophomore Alissia Kivi 3-6, 7-5, 10-5. The only loss for Bowling Green came at No. 4 singles, where Blair fell to senior Dari Sakhanova in three sets, 5-7, 6-4, 10-3.
Bowling Green (1-0) continued its Pennsylvania road trip Sunday, Oct. 12, with a match against Indiana (Pa.).
The Falcons will travel to Champaign, Illinois, for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regionals, hosted by the University of Illinois. Competition begins Wednesday, Oct. 16.
