BGSU women’s basketball (6-4) won its fourth straight game at the Stroh Center this season, defeating the Lourdes University Gray Wolves (9-0) 104-76.
“Great battle, they kind of put us back on our heels,” said women’s basketball head coach Fred Chimel postgame. “They only made us better today… When a team plays that hard, you have to match their intensity, or they’ll embarrass you.”
Junior guard Paige Kohler finished the game with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Kohler stepped up in more ways than one, most notably marking a triple-double for her team.
The first-ever triple-double was recorded by the BGSU women’s basketball program in its 52-year history.
“Paige is solid. I can always count on Paige. She is my security blanket,” said Chimel. “She’s the voice in our huddle. She leads by example.”
Stepping up on the Falcon offense to help the team, she would shoot 4-7 from the three-point line for the first half alone, which led the team in 3-pointers made.
“It’s great, it’s awesome, it’s really rewarding… It shows the hard work we put in, but also thanks to my teammates,” said Kohler. “It was really exciting, thanks to them.
Defensively, she stood out as a cornerstone, earning 10 assists, as well as adding to the breakout with two steals. Compared to the team, Kohler was second on the team in steals and led BG in assists.
“I’m proud of what we’ve done as of late, but there’s still work to do, and we have little time to do it,” said Chimel.
As a team, Bowling Green struggled mainly from the charity stripe, shooting only 18-25 from the free-throw line and missing seven alone in the second half and nine throughout the game.
“We can’t take any game lightly. If we don’t do the right things, it’s going to be a tough game for us. It’s wonderful being at home and having the fans behind us. We’ve got to make sure we play our game,” said Kohler.
Rolling along, Kohler would look ahead to Tuesday, where the Falcons will take on the Le Moyne Dolphins at 11:00 a.m. for kids’ day at the Stroh Center.
