BGSU women’s tennis (5-3) loses a close match to Youngstown State (4-4) in the dual tennis match at YSU Indoor Tennis Center, in Youngstown, Ohio. The Falcons ended up losing the match by a score of 4-3 after multiple close matches in doubles and singles.
Doubles Troubles
To start the day, Youngstown State’s Yoana Dudova and Hanna Telzynska defeated BGSU’s Libby Blair and Kiera Taylor 6-3 on court No. 1. This match gave the Penguins an early lead on the day. The second match to finish was on court No. 3, where we saw Leticia Fonseca and Konstantina Adamopoulou continue their dominance and win the match 6-4.
The final match to finish took place on court No. 2 and was the longest match of the afternoon. In this match, the Falcon’s Qianyu Liu and Tia Clemens lost a nailbiter in a 7-6 finish that saw the match having to be decided through a tiebreaker. With these results, the Falcons were heading into the singles matches down 1-0 on the day.
Singles Split
The tight matches in the doubles matches continued into the singles matches, where the Falcons and Penguins would split the matches 3-3. The first match BGSU won came in thanks to Liu, who won both of her sets by at least 4 points, gaining the first point of the day for the Falcons.
The second win was courtesy of Adamopoulou, who won the first set 6-4 before dropping the second set. In the third, she came out strong and ended up winning 6-2, securing another point for the Falcons. This win brought the overall score to 3-2.
The last win of the day for the Falcons came from Blair, who lost the first set before winning two in a row to get another point for the Falcons. Despite these wins for the Falcons, they still ended up losing 4-3 on the day, in part due to the Penguins getting the first point from the doubles matches.
