BGSU softball (15-14, 3-6) split their Saturday doubleheader against the Buffalo Bulls (14-18, 5-4), with the Bulls winning the first game 7-4 before the Falcons closed out the two-game slate, winning 9-1.
Senior middle-fielder Hannah Hunt carried the load through both games, fronting the Bowling Green’s effort.
“I really liked the second performance a lot better than the first one, but honestly, I felt in the first one, we started competing,” said BG head coach Michelle Gardner. “We’ve got to find a way to come out from the get-go and swing like that.”
The Falcons were simply out-hit by Buffalo in the first game, as Buffalo tallied 12 hits, whereas the Orange and Brown only knocked eight.
Two of BG’s hits came from Hunt, who also recorded an RBI.
“I think we were making adjustments better today, and we strung it together as a team instead of individuals, and that helped us a lot in the end,” said Hunt.
In the finale, Hunt’s dominant hitting performance persisted, as she finished with two more hits, with one of them leaving the yard. Altogether, she concluded her day with six RBIs.
“It felt really good,” said Hunt. “I was just happy to support my friends and get us on the board.
Unlike the first game, BGSU out-hit the Bulls 11-5, which ignited the rally in the series capstone.
Next, Bowling Green will set their sights on the Ohio State Buckeyes, who they will face Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Meserve Field.
