BGSU baseball’s junior two-way player DJ Newman has reportedly entered the transfer portal, according to CollegeBaseCNT’s Andrew Riedell.
Newman was a Preseason First Team All-American last season before missing the second half of the season due to injury.
Before his injury this season, Newman pitched 14.1 innings, allowing six runs on 15 hits, 16 strikeouts and four walks. He also contributed at the plate, having 93 plate appearances with 39 hits, 16 RBI and a .419 batting average.
The Orange and Brown’s two-way star shined in his three years at BGSU, where he accumulated a 3.60 ERA with 91 strikeouts. He also hit .388 with 15 HRs and 64 RBIs during his time on the team.
The Archbold, Ohio, native was Second-Team All-MAC in 2024 as a designated hitter along with a plethora of pitching awards in his 2023 freshman season. Those include MAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year, First-Team All-MAC, and numerous First-Team Freshman All-American nods.
