The first away match for BGSU women’s soccer (3-1-0) this season resulted in a big 4-1 victory over the Detroit Mercy Titans (1-4-0).
After conceding first, BGSU was able to score four unanswered goals throughout the match to a crowd of 157 people on Thursday night in Detroit.
Coming into the game, very little action would happen right away as it took 31 minutes for the Titans to strike first. A goal from Senior Midfielder Abbey Lodato off a steal was the first of five goals scored in this matchup.
The score would stay the same heading into halftime with a Titan lead. It would take only seven minutes, however, into the half and 52‘ into the game.
Junior forward Isabella Mazzaferro would record her first goal as a Falcon, off a corner kick, tying it up for the Falcons. Only seven minutes later, grad student Ellie Pool received a long pass from junior Emme Butera, resulting in the sixth-year forward chipping Titans goalkeeper Chantelle Symes. This goal will end up being Pool’s third goal of the season, with more on the way.
As in the situation for Butera, she recorded her second assist in the four games so far. Once the game rolled along further, the Orange and Brown found goal number three, 80 minutes in.
Junior forward Emma Stransky found the back of the net for her second time throughout the 2025 season. Then, right after a blocked header from Stransky from an Ella Kane cross, Pool got her second goal of the night, cleaning up on a rebound.
Four Falcons tonight would see the pitch in all 90 minutes and contribute to their victory. 20 Falcons saw the pitch tonight, as head coach Chris Fox continues to showcase the squad’s depth on the bench. Through the overall game, we saw Bowling Green outshoot Detroit Mercy by 16 to three shots.
The Falcons look to improve their winning streak to three matches as they take on the Cincinnati Bearcats on Sunday, Aug. 31, at 1:00 p.m. at Cochrane Stadium.
Falcon Media Sports Network will have full coverage of the match on bgfalconmedia.com.
