DEXTER, MICH. — The BGSU men’s cross country team opened its 2025 campaign with a fifth-place finish at the Michigan Open, totaling 128 points against a field that included Michigan, Toledo, Akron and Siena Heights.
The race served as both a season debut and an early measuring stick for the Falcons. Bowling Green ran behind its MAC rivals but placed solidly in the middle of the pack. The season opener featured the return of junior Josh Risko, back in uniform after being declared cancer-free in May.
Junior Micah Bentley paced the Falcons, finishing 25th overall in 15 minutes, 44.7 seconds. Junior Luke Woolard was the second Falcon across the line in 32nd at 16:06.8. Freshman Ashton Boyd placed 35th in 16:27.7, followed by senior Bryce Weber in 37th at 16:43.4. Freshman Wyatt Ulbricht completed the scoring five with a 38th-place finish in 16:58.3.
Freshman Isaak Rubley (41st, 17:19.1) and junior Jim Trzaska (43rd, 17:43.2) rounded out the top seven. Risko crossed in 19:02.7.
The Falcons’ score of 128 points placed them fourth among Division I programs in the field, ahead of Siena Heights but behind conference rivals Toledo and Akron. Michigan won the team title with just 28 points, followed by Toledo with 90 and Akron at 106.

Bowling Green will return to action Sept. 12 when it hosts the Mel Brodt Collegiate Open at home.
