BGSU athletics announced an extension to the contract of the director of Cross Country and Track and Field, Lou Snelling.
The new deal extends Snelling’s BGSU tenure to at least June of 2030.
“We’re excited to continue benefiting from his leadership and look forward to all that’s ahead for the program under his direction,” said Bowling Green Vice President for Athletics Strategy and Director of Athletics Derek van der Merwe.
Snelling’s extension comes after a stretch that’s also best described as historic.
In the 2024-2025 Track and Field seasons, the Falcons won both Mid-American Conference (MAC) championships, with Snelling receiving MAC Coach of the Year honors for both seasons.
Snelling also coached the MAC Freshman of the Year in both Cross Country and Indoor Track for the 2024-2025 season.
This year, the Women’s Cross Country team also scored its best conference championship finish since 2020, placing 3rd overall, with three All-MAC honorees.
Outside of competition, Snelling’s teams have achieved excellence in the classroom, earning USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors in 13 of his 14 years at the helm of the Falcons.
“I’m deeply grateful to my family for their support, and to Vice President for Athletics and Director of Athletics Derek van der Merwe, along with President Rodney K. Rodgers, for their leadership and belief in our vision,” said Snelling. “I feel a deep sense of purpose about our program’s future.”
Snelling’s Falcons will look to keep their 2025 Cross Country season going when they travel to the Great Lakes Regional Meet in Evansville, Indiana, on Friday, Nov. 14.
