Western Michigan wins in non-conference finale:
After their fourth win in a row against DePaul University on Saturday, Western Michigan is square in the middle at seventh place in the MAC standings. With this win, Midfielders Avery Peters and Meredith Vance pick up their first goals of the season, and Goalkeeper Reagen Sulaver achieved her second career shutout (Western Michigan Athletics). This win closes out Western Michigan’s non-conference run for the season.
Thursday, Sept. 18, 7:00 p.m.: Western Michigan at Miami:
Western Michigan, now on a four-game winning streak, will be facing a confident Miami team that’s undefeated at home. Miami’s shutout against Northern Illinois on Sunday makes them undefeated in the MAC, and they will be looking to keep both streaks alive against the Western Michigan Broncos.
Bowling Green ranked No. 45 in the nation after a win against Kent State:
Even with Kent State dominating in shooting 16-7 (with seven shots on goal) and corner kicks (9-4), they couldn’t get the win for their MAC opener (Kent State Athletics). The Kent State Golden Flashes stayed true to their name and scored five minutes after the Bowling Green Falcons had the go-ahead goal.
This win ties Bowling Green’s going 6-1-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the MAC, tying their best start of a season in 2021 (Bowling Green Athletics).
Thursday, Sept. 18, 4:00 p.m.: BG at Ohio U:
With their first MAC win, the Falcons have found themselves not only in the MAC standings but also at 45th place in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) DI standings. This national ranking is the highest of all the MAC teams. While Ohio University comes into this matchup at fourth in the MAC with a 1-2-1 record at home.
Ball State Cardinals soar over Minutewomen:
Ball State secures its first MAC win with an early goal on Sunday against the University of Massachusetts (UMass). Ball State’s Lexi Watkins scored within the first three minutes of the match, and with the defense holding the Minutewomen to five shots (two on goal), this was enough to get the job done (Ball State Athletics).
This game was the first of many MAC matchups for the Minutewomen since joining the conference earlier this year.
Thursday, Sept. 18, 2:00 p.m. – UMass at Akron:
Akron‘s gearing up for its first MAC matchup of the season against UMass after suffering a 3-0 shutout against Dayton. Both teams are coming off a loss, with this being UMass’s first on-the-road MAC game; both teams have something to prove.
Thursday, Sept. 18, 4:00 p.m.: Central Michigan at Ball State:
Central Michigan will be facing a MAC team on the road for the first time this season after its at-home loss against Ohio University. With this loss, Central Michigan is again on the hunt for its first win of the season, and a win against a 4-2-1 Ball State is a tall task.
Toledo closes non-conference stretch against IU Indy:
Toledo’s last non-conference matchup ended in a 1-1 draw against Indiana University in Indianapolis (IU Indy). Although this draw ends Toledo’s winning streak, its unbeaten streak is still alive.
Thursday, Sept. 18, 2:00 p.m.: NIU at Toledo:
Toledo will be opening their MAC play against Northern Illinois. With Toledo coming off a draw and Northern Illinois coming off a loss on Sunday, both teams will be wanting a MAC win to help them in the standings. Toledo (sixth in the MAC) needs this win to help reach the top five, while Northern Illinois (11th in the MAC) needs this win to break even with their in-conference record, and maybe go up a few places in the MAC standings.
Ohio University shuts down a speedy Central Michigan:
Central Michigan is still looking for its first win and goal after losing to Ohio University in a 1-0 shutout. Central Michigan was eager for its first goal of the season with a shot within the first five minutes of the game, but Senior Goalkeeper Celeste Sloma held off facing eight shots and getting six saves (Ohio University Athletics).
Miami secures first MAC win against Northern Illinois:
After their loss against Morehead State, Miami bounced back against Northern Illinois with its first MAC win of the season. With this win, Miami is now 4-3-0 sitting pretty in third place in the MAC, while Northern Illinois is going 2-3-1 and sits not-so-pretty at 11th place in the MAC.
Thursday, Sept. 18, 4:30 p.m.: Buffalo at Eastern Michigan:
After a dominant win against Mercyhurst (4-1) to cap off their non-conference matchups, Buffalo is looking to extend their winning streak in their first MAC game against Eastern Michigan. Buffalo is also looking to be the favorites going 2-1-1 away, while Eastern Michigan is 1-3 at home.
