BGSU women’s soccer (6-1-3, 1-0-2 MAC) returns to Cochrane Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 28, at 1:00 p.m. to face off against the Central Michigan Chippewas (0-7-2, 0-1-2 MAC).
This matchup comes one week removed from the Falcons’ 1-1 draw at home vs Western Michigan, the preseason favorite to win the Mid-American Conference (MAC). A game that saw junior forward Lexi White tie up the game with her first collegiate goal.
The orange and brown have not lost a matchup in September, with a record of 3-0-2 on the month. The Falcons have also outscored opponents 7-4 in the 30-day timespan, statistics that have helped push the team to their best start in program history.
Central Michigan’s start to the season has been tough sledding to say the least. They came out of the gates with a seven-game losing streak. The only bright side of the season to this point has come in the last two games, where the Chippewas would pick up points through draw finishes.
The Chippewas’ last matchup was on Sept. 25 against Toledo, which ended in a 1-1 draw. The lone goal for CMU came from freshman forward Jimena Perez Ayala, a score that marked her first collegiate goal.
Bowling Green is 11-15-2 all-time vs Central Michigan, with the last outing being a 1-2 final in favor of the Chippewas on Oct.18, 2024.
Falcon Four Players to Watch:
Junior defender Gabby Lamparty– Since moving from Western Virginia to Bowling Green via transfer, Lamparty has been a focal point for the Falcons’ success, specifically in the backfield.
In ten games played so far this season, Lamparty has recorded six points off of two goals and two assists.
The junior defender has also played for a total of 861 of 900 minutes possible so far this season, the third most from a player on the team.
Junior forward Emma Stransky– It would be hard to argue against the idea of Stransky being the star offensive player for the Orange and Brown through ten games so far this season.
Stransky leads the Falcones with five goals so far this season, which also puts her at third overall in the MAC for goals scored.
Finding the net has not been a problem for the junior forward so far this season either. On the 13 shots that Stransky has taken, nine of them were on goal.
CENTRAL MICHIGAN
Junior midfielder Melaina Troy– Goals have been hard to come by for the Chippewas so far this year, with only two total goals on the year to this point.
Troy scored the first goal of the season for CMU when they faced off against Ball State earlier this month, helping the Chippewas earn their first points of the season in a draw finish.
Troy also leads the team in total points (three) and shots on goal (eight)
Freshman defender Abby Freese– In the defender position, it is important to be available when the team needs you, and Freese has been just that.
Through nine games played, the freshman has played a total of 800 minutes, 152 more minutes than the second-largest amount on the team.
Freese also has the third most shots on the team so far this season with nine.
First touch will be at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at Cochrane Stadium.
