BGSU women’s soccer (7-1-3, 2-0-2 MAC) hosted the Central Michigan Chippewas (0-8-2, 0-2-2 MAC), winning 4-0 to continue their unbeaten streak in Mid-American Conference (MAC) play on Sunday afternoon.
Head coach Chris Fox spoke cheerfully after the 4-0 win, “It was a complete execution of the game plan from the players.”
After an errant pass by the Falcons in the 3rd minute, sophomore goalkeeper Payton O’Malley made a diving save in a 1-on-1 situation. It was the only save O’Malley needed to make the whole afternoon.
Sixth-year forward Ellie Pool had her shot blocked in the 11th minute by Central Michigan’s junior goalkeeper Brylee Borgman.
However, Pool bounced back in the 15th minute, as she assisted junior forward Emma Stransky to gain a 1-0 lead for BG. Stransky has four goals in the past five games.
Senior forward Emily Hollar had a look to extend the lead, but Borgman continued to fend off BGSU’s attacks.
Shortly after Hollar’s attempt, BGSU had a goal disallowed due to an offside violation.
After multiple missed opportunities, the BGSU offense finally broke through.
Junior defender Gabby Lamparty assisted junior forward Lizzie Bultynck to make it 2-0 for the Orange and Brown in the 41st minute. This was Bultynck’s first goal since 2023.
Bultnyck continued her goal scoring after receiving a breakaway pass from redshirt freshman midfielder Minah Syam to extend the lead to 3-0 in the 43rd minute.
The Falcons continued to push the tempo in the 2nd half as freshman midfielder Quinn O’Neil and junior forward Isabella Mazzaferro pressured Borgman and the Chippewa defense with shots just off target.
Late in the match, O’Malley was subbed out for redshirt freshman goalkeeper Kendall Sears. It was Sears’ first appearance in the Orange and Brown.
Despite a 3-0 lead, coach Fox continued to fight for his players and received a yellow card in the 81st minute.
In the following minute, Bultynck assisted redshirt sophomore Audrey Oliver and made it the final score of 4-0. It was Oliver’s first goal since 2023, as she was injured the whole 2024 season.
Bultnyck talked after the game about her two-goal and one-assist performance. “Getting that first goal after the work that I put in was really rewarding.”
The Falcons look to continue their momentum on the road against the Toledo Rockets on Thursday, Oct. 2, at 7:00 p.m. at Paul Hotmer Field.
