BGSU women’s soccer (7-1-5, 2-0-4) traveled north to Ypsilanti, Michigan, to face the Eastern Michigan Eagles (4-5-3, 2-1-3) for yet another Mid-American Conference (MAC) showdown.
Junior forward Lizzie Bultynck found the back of the net for the Falcons in the second half, scoring her third goal of the season and her third goal in the last four matches.
This draw extends Bowling Green’s unbeaten streak to 11 matches, which ties the school record.
After missing the last five matches, junior forward Ella Kane made her return for the Orange and Brown, playing 42 minutes.
Despite the great defensive efforts from the Falcons, led by head coach Chris Fox, the squad missed opportunities to put the ball into the net, which would lead to BG’s second straight draw in conference play against the Eagles, 1-1.
The first 20 minutes of the game saw a defensive battle from both sides of the pitch, with both the Falcons and Eagles only holding themselves to just one shot on goal recorded.
It wouldn’t be until halfway through the first half that the defensive slug-fest would end with junior forward for the Eagles, Olivia Sipsock, after an assist from sophomore midfielder Tayla Maddock to give EMU the lead, 1-0.
Despite the difficult start, the Falcons remained in the hunt for the rest of the half, especially with substitutes off the bench getting into the action by recording two shots on goal from senior forward Emily Hollar and Bultynck.
This would then lead to Bultynck getting BG back into the game with a strike into the net to tie the game with less than two minutes remaining.
The half would end with Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan staying even, 1-1.
The Second half saw the same repeated tempo as the first, while BG did try to lock down EMU’s offense from scoring, attempting six shots on goal compared to their own four, they would surpass the Eagles in shots with 10 compared to five. Creating more missed chances for the offense to break away from the even-sided affair.
As time continued to dwindle, Bowling Green would attempt to score in the final minute with a shot from junior forward Isabella Mazzaferro, but it was deflected by the Eagles’ redshirt junior goalkeeper Ella Holland to prevent the Falcons from taking the lead, ending the game in a 1-1 draw.
Fox and the Falcons will look to get back to a winning streak in the MAC as they will return to Cochrane Stadium next week to face the Miami Redhawks (7-5, 4-2) on Sunday, Oct 12, at 1:00 pm.
