BGSU women’s soccer (8-2-8, 3-1-7) concluded their home stand for 2025 on Senior Day with a 1-1 draw against the Akron Zips (4-9-3) (MAC) at Cochrane Stadium.
Akron begins with a 1-0 lead within the first half, scored by senior defender Rielly Chesna, off a corner kick. This would be her first goal of the season, playing in 14 games for Akron so far this season.
However, a goal with just 25 seconds left in the match from junior defender Gabby Lamparty saves a point for the Falcons. Her goal was assisted by Emme Butera and Emma Stransky.
Junior Goalkeeper Sara Bower recorded two saves, as the Zips had three shots on net and three corner kicks.
Bowling Green would have had chances of their own, yet were unable to capitalize on the opportunity to score a goal. As BG attempted six shots and a corner kick. Holding possession 54% of the time in the first half, the orange and brown did not connect and would look to the second half for answers.
“It’s a must-win… It’s not where we wanted to be with the performances we’ve shown and the quality we have,” said head coach Chris Fox postgame.
As the second half rolled along, BG would notch a corner kick, but early on, it did not have the same result as Akron. Needing to get in order with a MAC tournament bid on the line. The Falcons were unable to take advantage of their possession.
“Akron’s attack was very good, they gave us a lotta issues,” said junior defender Gabby Lamparty
Junior midfielder Emme Butera got an opportunity with a free kick and would go high above the net after she had a breakaway that resulted in a yellow card on Oliva Pilato.
Two Cornerkicks back to back with 23:53 remaining in the second half would not be enough, as eventually the Falcons would have to wait longer for their chance. They will be handed their eighth tie and the seventh tie in the Mid-American Conference.
While it wasn’t immediate during the game. The third goal for the season, junior defender Gabby Lamparty, would find the back of the net on the final shot of the game. Assisted by Butera and Emma Stransky. Lamparty would tie the game and give the result in a draw for Bowling Green.
“Really happy for Gabby, obviously it’s a really important result for us,” said Fox about the game and Lamparty’s late goal.
Salvaging a potential opportunity for the MAC tournament, with the Falcons in a win-or-go-home situation for their final match of the season. BG will be handed their eighth tie overall and the seventh in MAC play.
The Falcons will look to book their ticket to the MAC tournament with a win in their final regular-season match as they head up north to Amherst to battle the University of Massachusetts on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
