This afternoon, the Mid-American Conference (MAC) announced its All-MAC selections with seven Falcons earning honors, with three of them being first team.
Running back and kick returner Cameron Pettaway was recognized as MAC Freshman of the Year while also earning first team on special teams. He is now just the fifth Falcon of all time to earn Freshman of the Year honors, the first since running back Anthon Samuel won it back in 2011.
The Michigan native ended the year with 365 yards on 72 carries on the ground. Through the air, he racked up 139 yards on receptions for two touchdowns as well. In the kick return game, Pettaway had 396 yards on 12 attempts and a touchdown.
Pettaway was the returner who brought back the opening kick to open up the season against Lafayette, which marked the second year in a row the Falcons returned the opening kick of the season to the house.
Pettaway led the nation in kick return average at 33.0 yards per return, which marked a BGSU single-season record.
Tight end Jyrin Johnson earned First-Team All-MAC on the offensive side of the ball.
Johnson, the Texas State transfer, was the Falcons’ number one receiver for Bowling Green quarterbacks this season. Johnson had 37 receptions for 466 yards and two touchdowns to his name.
Rounding out the first teamers is Gideon Lampron, earning First Team All-MAC in his first year at the FBS level.
Lampron was atop every box score for the Falcons this season as he ended the year with 119 total tackles, 65 solo tackles, 54 assisted tackles, 2.5 sacks, and 17.5 tackles for loss, which marked him the only player in the nation with 100+ tackles and 15+ tackles for loss.
Other Falcons included offensive lineman Nate Pabst and placekicker Jackson Kleather, who both earned Second-Team All-MAC.
Pabst started all 12 games for the Falcons this season and served as one of the team captains. Kleather led the MAC, making 19 field goals. He was the only kicker in the conference with at least three made field goals of 50+ yards and tied for No. 2 in the nation with five made field goals from 49 yards or longer.
Rounding out the Falcons, MJ Cannon and Jalen McLendon both earned Third-Team All-MAC.
Cannon finished the year with 57 total tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss, two sacks and two interceptions.
Mclendon, who followed Mike and Jan Wilcox Head Football Coach Eddie George from Tennessee State to BG, served as a team captain this season and racked up 56 total tackles, 1.0 tackles for loss, 1.0 sacks and seven pass breakups.
