Bowling Green baseball (4-10, 1-2) continues their I-75 South trip with a three-game weekend series against Miami (OH) (11-4, 3-0) at McKie Field in Oxford, Ohio.
Both teams will be heading into their second Mid-American Conference (MAC) series of the season, with the Falcons picking up one game against Kent State and the RedHawks taking all three games in their series against Eastern Michigan.
First pitch at McKie Field at Hayden Park is set for 1 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Matchup History
Miami has control of the all-time series with 107 wins to BGSU’s 78 wins. In their series last year, the RedHawks took the first two games, with the Falcons taking the final game in extra innings at Steller Field.
The last series in Oxford, Ohio, came in 2024, with Bowling Green taking all three games.
Scouting Bowling Green
The Falcons picked up a midweek 9-5 victory over the Dayton Flyers on Tuesday, with eight players notched a hit, including multi-hit games from junior outfielder Pauly Mancino, redshirt senior infielder Anthony Mitta and junior catcher Lance Vickers. The trio were all transfer players picked up in the portal for Bowling Green.
Vickers breakout game included his first collegiate hit, a single to left field, which ended up getting him scored by a Mitta triple.
Mancino extended his on-base streak to 11 games following a two-run homer in the seventh inning.
The Orange and Brown made use of six different pitchers against Dayton, including the right-handed pitching duo of sophomore Carrson Sova and junior Andrew Heffernan.
Both Sova and Heffernan had not seen action since the Samford series but combined for a reliable five innings allowing four runs on five hits and four strikeouts. The duo had started a combined six games prior.
Redshirt senior right-hander Ty Roder also saw his first midweek action against the Flyers, going 1.1 innings allowing one runs on a hit and a walk, while recorded two strikeouts. Roder has pitched in at least one game of every weekend series so far this season
Scouting Miami
The RedHawks were set to face off against Evansville for a midweek showdown before being canceled, making their last game their 9-4 Sunday victory over Eastern Michigan in their first MAC series of the season.
Miami opened up the game with a four-run first inning, anchored by a three-run homer by redshirt freshman infielder Ignacio Gonzalez. Over the three-game series, Gonzalez led the team with six RBIs, which was propelled by his two home runs.
From the mound, senior left-handed pitcher Jake Tedesco came in as relief for the RedHawks on Saturday, dominating four innings. In his outing, Tedesco shut down the Eastern Michigan offense, allowing no runs on three hits, two walks and five strikeouts.
Along with Tedesco, senior right-handed pitcher Austin Berggren locked down the saves in both the Saturday and Sunday matchups against the Eagles. Berggren totaled 2.1 innings, allowing a single run on four hits.
Falcon Four Players to Watch
Brayden Curlis (Bowling Green No. 7)
The sophomore has been used in multiple positions throughout his first two seasons with the Falcons, while adding first base into the rotation in the series against Kent State and game against Dayton.
Curlis had an increased role following injuries last season and has steadily been a reliable plug and play guy. His athletic ability gives him the opportunity to find ways into the lineup and help the Falcons in whichever way is needed game to game.
Ethan Stade (Bowling Green No. 32)
Coming off his MAC Pitcher of the Week performance against the Golden Flashes, Stade is primed for either a start or long relief outing against a RedHawks team that is prone to striking out.
Whatever role Hallock decides to put him into, the Minnesota State transfer will be riding momentum against Miami.
The First Team All-MAC selection last season has dipped in batting average compared to his high-level of play in 2025, but the redshirt senior still leads Miami in homers, runs and walks.
Appelwick started all 58 games for the program last season, and is on pace to do so again, starting all 15 of the RedHawks games this season. His leadership alone on the field is crucial for the RedHawks throughout this series and the rest of the season.
The Kansas City Kansas Community College transfer has exceeded expectations so far this season, leading the team in batting average, hits, hit by pitches and stolen bases. His team high .442 batting average consists of 23 hits, only three of them for extra bases, and double-digit stolen bases.
The heavy contact hitter is looking to continue his dominant start to the season against a Bowling Green team that has a wide range of pitchers available to throw in the series but is also giving up a .360 batting average to opponents as a rotation.
