BGSU baseball (14-20, 8-10) lost their final home midweek matchup of the season, falling 19-6 to Dayton (19-16, 5-10) Tuesday at Steller Field.
Bowling Green has surrendered 40 runs combined between their final game against Central Michigan the loss to Dayton. The Flyers picked up runs in six out of the seven innings played.
The Falcons started the game off hot at the plate, picking up six runs between the second and third innings.
Three straight hits to begin the second inning, including an RBI double for junior utility player TJ Takats, picked up the first two runs for the Orange and Brown. Junior catcher Lance Vickers then picked up the third and final run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to left field.
Bowling Green added a solo home run by freshman catcher Andrew DiLodovico and a two-run home run by redshirt senior infielder Anthony Mitta in the third inning. This would be the last time the Falcons found home plate in the matchup.
In between the Falcons’ three-run innings, the Flyers put up seven runs of their own in the third inning. Graduate student utility player Danny MacDougall picked up four RBIs out of his six on the day with a grand slam in the inning.
Dayton scored three runs in three of the last four innings, never giving Bowling Green a chance to sneak back into the game.
The Falcons used another four pitchers in their outing, following seven used against the Chippewas in their series closer.
Following 2.2 innings pitched by freshman left-hander Joey Buchanan, giving up seven runs on seven hits, sophomore right-hander Chase Clatur came in to secure the final out of the third inning.
Redshirt junior right-hander Ethan Papacek and sophomore right-hander Micah Smith finished out the final four innings.
The Falcons head into a five-game road stretch, with four of which coming on one trip. Bowling Green picks up play once again Wednesday against Canisius in Buffalo, New York, with the first pitch set for 3 p.m.
