BGSU track and field competed in the Jessie Owens Classic this past Friday and Saturday; unfortunately, the weather disrupted both days of the competition, Friday with lightning strikes and Saturday due to poor conditions from the weather.
The Falcons still managed to turn in strong performances on both days through the interruptions.
First on Friday, in the 1500m, Kylee Cubbison broke her own school record with a time of 4:16.73 to take third place, surpassing the time of 4:19.19 set by her just a few weeks ago. Falcon’s Christabelle Obi finished ninth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.32.
In the field events on Friday, Jenna Lucas finished 12th in the javelin throw after throwing 33.10 meters.
On Saturday, Bowling Green managed to complete several events before the rest of the day was canceled due to the poor weather conditions.
Sabrina Imes, with a mark of 11.98 meters, finished second in the triple jump competition, with Bianca Staples placing third just behind her with 11.78 meters.
Staples also tied for 13th place with teammate Katherine Mendenhall‘s height of 1.65 meters in the high jump.
The Falcons competed in several other events before the day ended early due to the weather.
Bowling Green will compete in the Northeast Ohio Open from May 8-9, hosted by Akron. Another team of Falcons will head to Ann Arbor, Mich. for the Len Paddock Open on May 9.
