The BGSU women’s cross country team competed at home on the Mel Brodt Cross Country Course in the Mel Brodt Collegiate Open, a 6k race, on Friday afternoon.
The Falcons placed second out of two teams, falling to Toledo, which is projected to win the Mid-American Conference (MAC), according to the preseason coaches poll.
Bowling Green had five runners finish in the top 10, with junior Kylee Cubbison leading the way, finishing in second with a 21:18.9.
“Really nice opener, just continuing the momentum from spring,” head cross country coach Lou Snelling said. “Effort. It was really about effort today, and how much we put out there. We were able to stay dialed in when things got tough and quiet; competing in the last two kilometers was really our focus today.
Sophomore Lexi Panning and senior Regina Rose went back-to-back in sixth and seventh place with a 21:46.2 and a 21:47.1, respectively.
Sophomore Reese Reaman ran 22:13.8, and sophomore Rachael Hoover ran 22:23.5 as they respectively went ninth and 10th.
Senior Emma Hellwege finished in 13th with a 22:45.1, sophomore Amelia Barilla ran a 23:24.7 and finished in 17th and junior Nora Ritting with a 24:01.0 and a 20th place finish. Meanwhile, a 23rd-place finish by junior Clare Valenza with a 27:56.6 rounded out the field.
Bowling Green will continue to prepare for their next race, the Paul Short Run at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on Friday, October 3rd.
