The BGSU women’s cross country team capped off an outstanding regular season with a strong performance at the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1. Running in crisp, 47-degree, partly sunny conditions at the Audubon Golf Course in Amherst, New York, the Falcons secured a third-place finish, totaling 67 points.
The result marked a one-spot improvement from last year’s finish and gave BGSU its lowest point total at the conference meet since 1998. Toledo claimed its fifth consecutive MAC title with 32 points, while Ohio finished second with 62 points, just edging out the Falcons.
“I’m really proud of the effort today; they ran aggressively from the gun and went for the win,” said head coach Lou Snelling. “As a program, this effort capped off our best calendar year of competition ever in the MAC with going first, first, and third across our three sports.”
All-MAC Honors Highlight Team Success
The Falcons were led by senior Kylee Cubbison, who placed third overall with a time of 20:45.6 to earn First-Team All-MAC honors. This is Cubbison’s third straight year earning all-conference recognition, following back-to-back Second-Team selections.
Two additional Falcons earned Second-Team All-MAC honors, making it the first time since 1998 that BGSU has had three All-MAC honorees in the same season.
Junior Rachael Withrow finished 11th in 21:03.3 and sophomore Lexi Panning took 13th with a mark of 21:08.8.
Scoring Five Secures Third
Senior Regina Rose crossed the line in 17th place with a time of 21:20.7, and sophomore Rachael Hoover rounded out BGSU’s scoring five in 23rd with a time of 21:28.8.
Also competing for the Falcons were sophomore Reese Reaman (45th, 22:15.0) and freshman Marissa Boone (58th, 22:36.2).
