Two BGSU volleyball players earned honors in week three as Mid-American Conference players of the week following the Falcons’ escapades in Chicago at the Loyola Invitational. Outside hitter Avery Hobson and setter Amanda Otten, individually earning their first selections and Bowling Green’s second and third selections of the season.
A transfer from Duquesne to BG in 2025, Hobson earns her first weekly honor since 2023 as Offensive Player of the Week. The six-foot-one junior combined for 47 kills on 100 swings over three matches, hitting a .310 percentage over her 10 sets. She also contributed two aces and seven blocks to BG’s point scoring with 20 digs defensively.
The match against Stephen F. Austin was her best of the season so far, totaling 24 kills on 47 attacks, eight digs, five blocks and two assists.
Otten had an equally impressive three-match stretch, starting with a 28-assist 10-dig double-double against Indiana and finishing with a season-high 52 assists against Loyola Chicago.
She contributed 124 assists and 24 digs on the series, also scoring eight blocks and 17 kills. It is the six-foot-three junior’s fourth MAC Setter of the Week award and fifth total weekly award.
In conference statistics, Otten ranks first in assists per set (9.58) and second in total assists (345). She is first on the Falcons in assists, second in digs and blocks, third in hitting percentage and aces, and fourth in total points. Hobson is second on the Falcons in kills and points, fourth in digs and fifth in aces.
With the loss to Indiana and wins against Stephen F. Austin and Loyola Chicago, BGSU volleyball sits at 4-5 overall, four losses coming to teams receiving votes in the NCAA rankings.
The next and final non-conference games for Bowling Green come against Oakland at home on Wednesday, and Michigan State and Binghamton in East Lansing on Friday and Saturday. All games will be broadcast on WBGU 88.1 FM starting 15 minutes before game time.
