BGSU women’s soccer (8-1-6,3-0-5) went on the road to defeat Northern Illinois (4-7-3,2-4-2) in a 1-0 match in DeKalb, Illinois, to get another Mid-American Conference (MAC) win on Thursday, Oct. 16.
The Orange and Brown reached a school record in the contest with 13 straight unbeaten matches.
The Falcons were propelled by a goal by junior forward Emma Stransky with nine minutes left to go in the match. Stransky scored from a corner kick into the box that was knocked back towards her and found the back of the net.
Stransky bumped her goal total up to seven on the season, her fourth against MAC opponents. In MAC matchups where Stransky scores, the Falcons are 3-0, with her goal being the winning goal in every one of those matchups.
The first half came with defensive toughness, resulting in only eight shots total between the two teams.
Falcons sophomore goalkeeper Payton O’Malley picked up her sixth shutout win of the season, with six saves on the night.
This becomes O’Malley’s second shutout in MAC play, including the Orange and Brown’s 4-0 win against Central Michigan.
The Falcons head back home to Cochrane Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 19, to face Ball State in one of the final four regular-season games.
