The BGSU women’s track and field team competed in the Jack Skoog Open on Friday, Jan. 16, traveling to Mount Pleasant, Michigan to compete inside Central Michigan’s Indoor Athletic Complex against Central Michigan, Alma, Lake Superior State and Lawrence Tech.
The meet served as an important early-season benchmark, with the Falcons setting multiple personal records while gaining valuable experience at the future Mid-American Conference Championship site.
With the MAC Indoor Championships set to take place at the same facility in late February, the meet provided an opportunity for the Falcons to become familiar with the championship environment while continuing to build fitness early in the season.
“It’s good to be comfortable with what this is,” head coach Lou Snelling said. “We know what it looks like. We know what it feels like. I don’t care if we like it or not, it’s about knowing what it is as we head towards the chip.”
Individual Highlights
The meet opened in the field events, where Bowling Green earned a pair of runner-up finishes. Grace Bradtmueller placed second in the weight throw with a mark of 15.55 meters, while Sierra Brinson followed with a silver-medal effort of 13.37 meters in the shot put.
On the track, Morgan Patterson led the Falcons in hurdles, finishing second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.71. Kiersten Franklin claimed the top spot in the 200 meters, crossing the line in 25.28, while Alexsia Davis followed closely behind with a personal-best time of 25.73.
Kiera Bonds placed first in the 60 meters with a winning time of 7.71, while also posting a personal-best performance in the triple jump, recording a mark of 11.72 meters in just her second career competition in the event, ranking eight in the MAC.
In the 400 meters, Reagan Campbell placed second with a time of 57.53, followed by Tyyetta Herman in third at 58.41. Rachael Hoover paced the Falcons in the 800 meters, winning the event in 2:12.64, while Kylee Cubbison finished third with a personal-best time of 2:15.74.
The duo continued their strong day in the distance events. Cubbison won the mile with a time of 4:49.31, while Hoover followed closely with a personal-best effort of 4:50.99. Hoover’s performance moved her into fifth place on BGSU’s all-time list.
Lexi Panning closed out the meet with a commanding victory in the 3000 meters, crossing the line in 9:55.74 to rank 10th all-time at Bowling Green. Regina Rose added a third-place finish with a personal-best time of 10:08.54.
“It’s January 16,” said Snelling. “As a team, we look like it’s January 16. We had a lot of good moments, but we’re not the sharpest at this point, nor should we be, right? So, I think we’re in an appropriate place. It’s just where we go from here, it’s the building that has to happen.”
