BGSU Baseball (4-10) (1-2) headed south to take on the Dayton Flyers, winning the game 9-5.
A rough start for BG that saw it trailing 3-0 after the first inning, by a three-run home run by redshirt-junior Bobby Stang. A highlight of the Flyer team was three runs, one hit, and an error to start the game.
“Guys picked one another up, came in with runners on, and shut it down,” said BGSU head coach Kyle Hallock after the win. “That’s important if you want to play in baseball.”
Continuing on to the top of the third inning is when the Falcons struck, A triple for redshirt-senior Anthony Mitta, as well as a first BGSU-career hit by junior catcher Lance Vickers, batted in two runs for the Falcons.
Mitta and junior TJ Takats contributed in the third inning most for BG, as Takats recorded a walk and a stolen base to be in scoring position for redshirt-senior Zack Horky.
BGSU kept it close, as Dayton, with the bases loaded, ended the sixth inning with a pop-out catch from Horky. An inning for BG that saw a run, a hit, and an error to a scoreless Dayton Flyers performance.
“17 straight road games…you know when you’re down, you know what you have to hold them to offensively,” said Hallock
What gave Bowling Green the lead for the first time of the game in the top of the seventh inning was a two-run home run by junior outfielder Pauly Mancino.
Dominant 7th inning for BG as four runs scored, with four hits, and 0 errors, more runs and hits than any other inning of the game.
“You know what you’re playing with offensively,” said Hallock. “We’ll see, but I think it could mean something really good.”
BGSU returns to southern Ohio on March 13 at 3 p.m. for a conference matchup against Miami (OH). Falcon Media Sports Network will have recaps of the series on bgfalconmedia.com.
