BGSU baseball (6-14, 3-6) returns to non-conference play as they will face the Tiffin Dragons (9-14, 4-4) of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) of Division II Tuesday at Steller Field, with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.
Falcon Media Sports Network will have a broadcast of the game, with Noah Seely and Adam Duffin on the call on WBGU 88.1 FM.
Matchup History
Both teams have faced each other eight times since 1985, with Bowling Green leading the series 8-1.
Tiffin’s only win against the Falcons came all the way back on March 10, 1985, with the Dragons taking a 13-8 victory.
The Falcons have since won five straight since their only lost, with their most recent win coming from last year, where the group led by coach Kyle Hallock won in a close contest, 8-7.
Bowling Green
BG is now coming off it’s fifth straight series loss against the Ohio Bobcats of the Mid-American Conference (MAC). The Falcons now find themselves sitting ninth in the conference with an uphill battle to climb beginning this week.
Offense has been a key struggle, with Bowling Green ranking last in batting with an on base percentage of .315. Junior infielder Sam Seidel continues to lead the charge with ranking 32nd in the conference in batting average at .310.
Overall, the Falcons hitting average sits at .229, which is currently second worst in the MAC.
Pitching is another struggling are for the Orange and Brown. Senior right-handed pitcher Jacob Turner leads the group in strikeouts at 19 with an ERA of 4.81. However, he and redshirt junior first baseman Brady Birchmeier are week-to-week, according to Hallock.
Fundamentally, the Falcons are still in a struggling spot, and need to find consistency sooner rather than later.
Tiffin
Like the Falcons, the Dragons have struggles of their own sitting five games below .500 in their respective conference. However, Tiffin won two out of their last three matchups against the Ohio Dominican Panthers this past weekend, winning 4-0 and 9-7, respectively.
Tiffin ranks eighth in batting average in their league with a .267 mark, with junior left-handed batter Brayden Clark sitting 21st in the G-MAC at .346.
While the offense isn’t a stellar unit, the Dragons’ main strength may come from the mound, an area that could put the Falcons in trouble if not careful.
For pitching, the Green and Gold sit outside the top five with a collective ERA of 7.04. Junior left-handed pitcher Brandon Swope sits third in the conference with a 2.81 ERA of his own and 21 strikeouts.
