BGSU baseball (15-23, 8-13) looks to shake off its weekend woes by traveling to the University of Michigan (24-16,10-8) in a Wednesday evening affair.
Falcon Media Sports Network’s Noah Seeley and Sam Bork will be providing commentary of the game with pregame coverage beginning minutes before the first pitch at 4 p.m. within Ray Fisher Stadium.
MATCHUP HISTORY
The Falcons and Wolverines have played each other a total of 63 times across the two schools’ history. BG is 15-47-1 against UM out of the 63 games faced.
Having said that, Michigan has won the past seven games against the Orange and Brown, as they defeated Bowling Green 9-2 last April in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
BOWLING GREEN
BGSU is looking to gain momentum as they look toward the end of the 2026 regular season. The Falcons haven’t found much success on the road, posting an 8-17 record away from Steller Field this season. Yet, facing a Wolverines team that had won four straight games before losing to the Miami (OH) Redhawks 12-10 in their last game could ignite confidence in the BG lineup.
Heading into tomorrow’s game, the Falcons hold the eighth spot in the Mid-American Conference (MAC), still within reach of claiming one of the final spots to sneak into the MAC Tournament. The Toledo Rockets currently hold the sixth seed in the MAC with a 17-22 overall record and a 13-8 conference record.
Regardless, the Orange and Brown’s offense continues to hold the team back, recording a .252 batting average, which ranks 11th in the MAC. Additionally, Bowling Green has recorded the second-fewest RBI per outing, registering 183 total RBI so far this season.
Conversely, BG’s pitching has consistently been one of the strengths of the team. The Falcons’ staff has established a 6.92 team ERA, which ranks sixth in the conference.
MICHIGAN
Aside from the loss to the Redhawks, the Wolverines have consistently won the close one-two-run games during their last five-game stretch. Dating back to April 14, 2026, UM has won three games that were close until the very end, defeating the Toledo Rockets 6-4, the Northwestern Wildcats 7-6, and the Huskies again 2-1 this past Sunday.
The Wolverines rank ninth in the Big Ten with 357 combined hits and a .274 batting average, which ranks ninth in the conference.
On top of that, the Wolverines have the third-highest team ERA out of the 16 teams in the Big Ten, having logged a 4.42 team ERA.
On the flip side, UM has amassed the most saves in the conference, totalling a total of 15 saves heading into the showdown with Bowling Green.
FALCON FOUR PLAYERS TO WATCH
Anthony Mitta (Bowling Green No. 40 redshirt senior)
Mitta paces the Falcons, having recorded the single-most At-Bats out of the Orange and Brown lineup, including a .328 batting average. BG needs Mitta to ignite the offense to jumpstart tomorrow’s game against the Wolverines.
Vinny Salvione (Bowling Green No. 23 junior)
Sticking to offense, Salvione has consistently been one of the driving forces offensively, mounting 20 RBI’s, which is the second-most out of BGSU’s lineup, only Mitta has more, registering 21 RBI’s. To add to that, Salvione has launched four home runs on the season.
Colby Turner (Michigan No. 13 junior)
Similar to Mitta, Turner paces the Wolverines with the highest batting average on the roster, currently clocking a .397 average. Additionally, Turner has smacked a team-high nine home runs, along with 34 RBI’s.
Brayden Jefferis (Michigan No. 2 sophomore)
Jefferis, too, has been an asset offensively for UM, with a .313 batting average, along with 45 total hits and 26 RBI’s this season.
