BGSU baseball (16-27, 9-15) lost to the Butler Bulldogs (16-28, 5-7) 3-0 on Tuesday, pushing another losing streak to three games.
The game began as a pitcher’s duel. Both teams were shut out through the first six innings of the game. Butler scored the game’s only runs in the seventh inning.
The runs were each earned against senior Kade Arn, who pitched the full seventh inning. Arn allowed the runs on three hits, a walk, and a wild pitch. The runs were scored on two RBI singles and a sacrifice groundout.
Senior starting pitcher Luke Krouse threw four full innings for the Falcons, only allowing three hits. Sophomore Micah Smith and sophomore Chase Clatur also entered in relief for Bowling Green, both not allowing runs.
Senior Jack Hagen started the game on the mound for Butler, though redshirt sophomore Ian Regal earned the win. Regal pitched three full innings, only allowing two baserunners via a walk and a hit-by-pitch.
There were no extra-base hits for either team, though the Bulldogs outhit the Falcons 7-4. Bowling Green left nine runners on base, five of whom were left in scoring position. The game ended with the bases loaded for the Falcons in the ninth inning.
Bowling Green’s pitching bested the Bulldogs in tallying strikeouts. The Falcons struck out Butler’s offense eight times, while BG only struck out three times. Senior Sam Seidel struck out twice.
Neither defense committed any errors. Junior catcher Lance Vickers led BG in putouts with eight.
Bowling Green’s overall record moves to 16-27 on the season, 7-12 in non-conference games. The Falcons have only one non-conference game remaining: an away game at Michigan State on May 5.
The Falcons will return to MAC play with a weekend series on the road at Eastern Michigan. The first pitch of Game One is set for Friday, May 1, at 1 p.m.
