At the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas yesterday, the Bowling Green men’s golf team made progress throughout both days as they finished 16th out of 17 teams.

Dylan Fitchet significantly stood out; leading the Falcons with a 36-round score of 140, making his career-best during the event.

Ethan Irvine had the best team results, placing T44 with a score of 74-73-73-220 (+4).

Fitchet fell a point behind with 71-69-81-221, placing T53 for the team.

Coach John Powers was pleased to see the event scores but also had other opinions about the bigger picture. “Ethan [Irvine] had a nice event and was steady from start to finish,” said Powers. “Dylan [Fitchet] was great on day one and we hope to see a lot more of that this spring. There was progress here versus last year, but the big numbers held us back in the final round.”

For other teams participating, Illinois State placed 1st with a total score of 832. Lipscomb, North Texas, and Rice tied for 2nd with a total score of 848 (-16).

BGSU’s next golf event will be at Western Carolina’s Sea Palms Invitational from March 7th to 9th at Sea Island, S.C.
