The Bowling Green women’s golf team competed in the Rio Verde Country Club Invitational hosted by Western Michigan.

It was a tough weekend for the Falcons as they shot +56 which placed them 20th out of 21 teams in the tournament only edging out Western Michigan’s B team.

Freshman Sammie Dolce led the way with a 30th-place finish which was good for +5 (73-71-77-221). Behind her was Ava O’Sullivan who shot +17 and tied for 70th (76-81-76-233). She was then followed by Kayla Davis who shot +20 and tied for 87th (77-77-82-236).

Rounding out the team was Makenna Jones, who placed 93rd, and was good for +22 (80-80-78-238). Olivia Steen also competed but withdrew from the tournament in the second round.

It was the Falcon’s 13th time playing in the Rio Verde Tournament and was the second consecutive week they played in Arizona.

Bowling Green, compared to fellow Mid-American conference competitors in the tournament, finished last as they fell just one stroke short of Central Michigan (+55, 19th), and four strokes behind Eastern Michigan (+52,18th).

Western Michigan who hosted the tournament, finished 17th as they shot +42. Ball State tied for 14th place as they shot +38 (T14th). Ohio and Akron then rounded out the MAC as they finished 10th and 11th place only separated by one stroke as Ohio shot +28 and Akron shot +27.

The Falcons will be back in action next Monday and Tuesday at the UTRGV Vaqueros Invitational in McAllen Texas.
