In their second tournament this season, the BGSU women’s golf team competed in the Redbird Invitational hosted by Illinois State University at Weibring Golf Club. The Falcons placed fourth overall at +35 (899) over three rounds.
Two rounds were played on Sunday, with the last round played Monday.
As a team, Bowling Green finished their first round five over par. In the second round, the Falcons posted a 297 (+9) to make their entrance into the final round 14 over. In that final round, the Orange and Brown went +21.
Bowling Green finished in front of the only Mid-American Conference (MAC) opponent, Northern Illinois, by one place and two strokes. NIU placed fifth overall (+37), one rank lower than BG.
Similar to the Falcons, Butler (+33) strung together two strong rounds on Sunday but couldn’t finish low during the final round.
In terms of individual performances, sophomore MAC golfer of the week Addison Kartusch and sophomore Macie Elzinga were both involved in a four way tie (+8) for 12th place. Kartusch shot 76-73-75, 224; Elzinga shot 71-75-78, 224.
Junior mainstay Sammie Dolce and senior cornerstone Ava O’Sullivan were also involved in a tie (+13) for 30th place. Dolce fired 79-72-78, 229; O’Sullivan shot 74-77-78, 229.
Sophomore Clare Yeazell placed in a tie for 55th place. She shot 72-84-82, 238 (+23).
Rounding out the scoring was freshman Shelby Hardwick. She played as an individual, meaning her score was not counted as a part of the rest of the team. In her solo endeavour, she shot 79-74-80, 233 (+17).
The Falcons were bottom-five in total bogeys as a team (67, T-12 with NIU). Bowling Green placed podium for the highest number of birdies in the tournament (35, 3rd place).
Bowling Green women’s golf take a break for the next two weeks. In their next tournament on Sept. 29-30th, they’ll participate in the Diane Thomason Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa.
