BGSU men’s golf began their season in Michigan at the Oakland Grizzlies Intercollegiate Tournament, placing last in a field of 12 teams.
Freshman Spaniard Pedro Garcia shot +7 over the weekend (73-73-74) to secure a top-25 placement on the par 71 course. This was his first tournament in the orange and brown, and sets him ahead of the rest of the roster in total cumulative strokes by eight.
Within the top 55, the Falcons owned two placements. The second-highest placement on the team was earned by freshman Andrew Lee, as fired a +15 (74-76-78) over the weekend. The third-highest placer on the team was Angelo Luciani, a club golf national champion (two team titles, one individual at Grand Canyon University), shot a +17 over the weekend (81-75-74).
Rounding out placements were junior DII transfer David Chavez and freshman Charlie Pettrone, who placed side by side at 71st and 72nd, respectively. Chavez finished +28 over the weekend, shooting 81-81-79. Meanwhile, Pettrone shot 80-79-83 in the tournament.
Additionally, senior Ethan Irvine placed 67th overall (+23, 80-79-77); however, his score was not counted towards the team cumulative as he played the tournament as an individual.
As a team, Bowling Green led the entire tournament in cumulative double bogeys and beyond (25); the team behind them only had 17 (Northern Kentucky).
The Falcons ranked 10th overall in the tournament for total pars, only trailing a top-five finish in the category by 11 holes par’d.

The Falcons don’t play for another two weeks, with their next event looking a little more familiar at home. BG will play host to the Virtues Intercollegiate in Nashport, Ohio, through Sept. 29-30th at Virtues Golf Club.
