The Bowling Green women’s swim and dive team (12-3, 2-1) returned to action on Saturday, traveling to Huntington, West Virginia, to compete in a double dual against Marshall and Duquesne at the Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium.
The Falcons turned in multiple event wins and podium finishes while battling through a highly competitive meet.
In the pool, senior Emily McNicol led the way for the Falcons with a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke, touching the wall in 56.54. Freshman Caroline Toledo followed with a pair of runner-up performances, placing second in both the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle.
Sophomore Samia Becdach added two podium finishes of her own. She took third in both the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle.
Bowling Green also found success on the boards, highlighted by freshman Sadie Dempz’s victory on the three-meter springboard with a score of 259.73. Sophomore Claire Werner added a second-place finish on the one-meter springboard, recording a score of 241.35.
In relay action, the Falcons opened with a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay and continued to produce strong performances throughout the meet. Bowling Green earned another podium finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay and closed the meet with a third-place showing in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
“We came up short on both sides, but that’s okay,” head coach Tanner Barton said. “It was an extremely competitive battle in Huntington. Big highlights from today were Sadie Dempz and Emily McNicol.”
Up next, the Falcons will end their road trip by competing in the Butler Invitational in Fishers, Indiana, on Sunday at noon.
