Junior diver Natalia Mayorga captured a conference title in the three-meter diving event to highlight BGSU women’s-swimming-and-diving performance at the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Swimming and Diving Championships this week. Mayorga posted a final score of 316.85 to secure the win for the Falcons (13-3, 3-1 MAC).
Despite the individual success on the boards, Bowling Green struggled to find its rhythm in the lanes, finishing at the bottom of the standings in several swimming categories.
Akron dominated the meet, claiming victory in eight of 16 events. The Ohio Bobcats also delivered a strong showing, winning four events to punch their ticket to the NCAA championships.
Other notable performances included Ball State’s Payton Kelly, who took first place in the 50-yard freestyle, and Grace Walker, who won the one-meter diving competition.
Miami (OH) found success with freshman Gracie Gregory securing victory in the 400-yard individual medley and a final time of 4:26.83. The Redhawks claimed victory as well in the 200-yard backstroke with junior Chrisna Bezuidenhout finishing above the Akron Zips in 2nd place.
While the Falcons finished ninth overall, the season continues for several student-athletes who qualified for the CSCAA National Invitational Championships in Ocala, Florida.
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of sophomores Samia Becdach and Annie Berrow, junior Sierra Newton and senior Emily Mcnicol secured their spot in the national field with a qualifying performance.
