BGSU gymnastics team fell short 195.225-193.200 against Ball State in their first away meet of the season in Muncie, Indiana.
The Orange and Brown start the season 0-2 in Mid-American Conference (MAC) play after their opening meet loss to Eastern Michigan.
Both the Falcons and Cardinals competed in Olympic Order, starting the meet on vault.
Ball State sophomore Karli Mercer scored an event and career high 9.825, with the Cardinals taking vault 48.775-48.275.
The Falcons’ high on vault came from senior Charniya Brown with a 9.725. Brown responded well following her 8.850 score on vault in the previous meet against Eastern Michigan.
Bowling Green had their best chance to take an event in bars before Ball State junior Ashley Szymanski recorded an event high 9.775 to give the Cardinals a 48.550-48.200 victory on bars.
Ball State took control of the meet after a dominating 48.850-48.225 beam rotation. Szymanski continued to shine with a 9.875 on beam, enough for an event high.
Bowling Green sophomore Emily Gianfrancescoonce again led the team on beam with a 9.725. Gianfrancesco scored .025 higher than her beam routine against Eastern Michigan.
Finishing the meet on the floor, both the Falcons and Cardinals posted their highest total on an event, with Ball State edging out BGSU 49.050-48.500.
Sophomore Kayla Shaw posted a 9.825 on floor for the Falcons. The highest score of the meet and season for BGSU so far.
Ball State junior Ava Molina managed to one-up Shaw with a 9.900 on her floor exercise. Molina’s floor routine scored her the event and meet high.
While taking the loss against Ball State, the Falcons managed to add almost an entire point and a half to their total score in comparison to their matchup against Eastern Michigan on Jan. 11.
Bowling Green will now look to get their first victory of the season in their upcoming Cornell Quad-Meet against Cornell, West Chester and SUNY Brockport in Ithaca, New York, on Sunday.
