The BGSU gymnastics team spent the first day of February in Kalamazoo, Michigan, for the Western Michigan Quad Meet between Bowling Green, Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Greenville, and host school Western Michigan.
The Orange and Brown landed a second-place finish with a team score of 194.275, with their only loss coming to Mid-American Conference (MAC) opponent, Western Michigan, who scored a 195.500.
Bowling Green took two victories against Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Greenville, who finished with 189.325 and 185.225, respectively.
The Falcons and Broncos had two gymnasts each tied for first place on vault. Seniors Madison Coburn and Charniya Brown both scored their season highs with 9.800’s for BGSU, while freshman Isabella Ciolfi and sophomore Kennedy Cooper pushed Western Michigan to a meet high 48.900.
Western Michigan took control of the meet with its star-studded bar and beam routines, with five of its six gymnasts scoring a 9.750 or higher on each event.
With their dominant scores, the Broncos took home the best five scores on bars while taking five of the best seven on beam.
Greenville senior Amara Nelson and Bowling Green sophomore Kayla Shaw were the only two non-Broncos to crack the top five on beam.
The floor exercise became the closest race of any event, with the Falcons and Broncos only being separated by .100, which Western Michigan used junior Julie Korfhage and her 9.825 event high to propel them to the win.
The Falcons will look to get above .500 in their next meet after a quick five-day turnaround as they head to Missouri for the SEMO Tri-Meet on Feb. 6 against Southeast Missouri State and Simpson College.
