BGSU gymnastics (7-4) defeated Wilberforce and Fisk University in a Tri-Meet this past Sunday, posting a score of 192.800 to earn the first overall victory for the Orange and Brown this season.
“This was a huge testament to what we have been doing all fall, during this entire season, and I’m super proud of the resilience shown by these athletes,” said head coach Brittney Emmons after the meet. “Because in our sport, that’s a lot to be able to do in a short amount of time, but this was great for them to be able to go out there and be under this piece where it’s going to set us up for conference super well.”
In the beginning, BG scored 47.975 as a team on the vault, with junior Megan Dizalo leading the charge with a score of 9.725. Dizalo also matched a career high on the floor with a 9.825 while also taking first overall on the vault and second overall on the floor.
BG then took this momentum to the unbalanced bars, led by freshman Natasha Lopez with a score of 9.675.
The Falcons then took to the balance beam, which saw an overall score of 47.850. Where the event saw sophomore Emily Gianfrancesco earn a season-high score of 9.775, fellow falcon Kayla Shaw would follow behind in the event with a 9.725, and junior Faye Dubin earned third overall.
The meet would also see junior Kiera Thornton shine once again, leading BG in the floor exercise, scoring a 9.850, earning first overall. Junior Nadia Parente would also be in the mix, earning third overall in the challenge with a score of 9.800.
The Falcons’ next meet will have them stay right at home and right back into Mid-American Conference (MAC) play against Northern Illinois on Sunday, Feb. 15, at the Stroh Center. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
