The NCAA Division I men’s basketball transfer portal is officially open. The portal will remain open for 15 days before closing on April 21.
Last year, over 80 Mid-American Conference (MAC) players entered the portal. There have already been over 40 entry announcements by MAC players before the portal officially opened.
This story will be updated with all MAC transfer portal developments. Here is an overview of the current transfer portal state around the MAC:
Akron
Additions (0)
Currently in transfer portal (4): G Eric Mahaffey, G Sharron Young, G Bowen Hardman, F Ognjen Stanković
Losses (0)
The Zips have seen two portal entries since head coach John Groce departed for the open position at College of Charleston.
Mahaffey was a key piece of the Zips’ success last season, earning All-MAC Honorable Mention and MAC All-Defensive Team honors, leading the team with 59 steals and 27 blocks.
Young and Hardman were also key pieces for Akron. Young was named to the MAC All-Freshman Team two seasons ago, while Hardman made 155 3-pointers on 40.7% shooting from deep over the past two seasons after transferring from Ohio State.
Ball State
Additions (0)
Currently in transfer portal (5): G Davion Hill, G Armoni Zeigler, F Preston Copeland, F Kayden Fish, G Alex Farley
Losses (0)
The Cardinals are on of the four teams tied for the most portal entries after the departure of head coach Michael Lewis.
Hill and Zeigler would both be massive losses for Ball State, leading the team with 14.0 and 12.5 points per game last season, respectively.
Bowling Green

Currently in transfer portal (3): F Mayar Wol, G Jaxon Pardon, G Javontae Campbell

Campbell and Wol are both massive entries for Bowling Green. Campbell currently does not have any remaining eligibility, but is applying to the NCAA for a waiver for another year of eligibility.
Campbell earned MAC Defensive Player of the Year and All-MAC First Team honors last season, leading the MAC with 97 steals and pacing the Falcons with 18.7 points and 5.1 assists per game. Wol led Bowling Green with 39.1% 3-point shooting and 50 3-pointers made.
However, head coach Todd Simon has added two high-level scorers from the Division II level.
Buffalo

Currently in transfer portal (4): G Daniel Freitag, G Ryan Sabol, F Mikhail Pocknett, G Omar Migues-Hibeljić
Losses (0)
Freitag and Sabol were both key pieces to the improved success for Buffalo last season.
Freitag led the Bulls with 19.8 points per game, earning All-MAC Honorable Mention honors. Meanwhile, Sabol paced the team with 122 3-pointers and ranked second with 18.8 points per game, earning All-MAC Third Team honors.
Central Michigan

Losses (0)
After being ravaged by the transfer portal last season, Central Michigan has seen just two entries, who combined to play just 407 minutes and start one game last season.
Eastern Michigan
Additions (1): G Max Booher (Quincy)

Losses (0)
Habhab is the notable entry for Eastern Michigan. He led the Eagles with 14.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game last season, earning MAC All-Freshman Team honors.
Kent State

Currently in transfer portal (5): F Magnus Entenmann, G Rayvon Griffith, G Cian Medley, F Delrecco Gillespie
Losses (1): F DeAndre Jones (Cleveland State)
Gillespie and Medley would both be massive losses for the Golden Flashes.
Gillespie earned All-MAC First Team honors, leading Kent State with 17.7 points per game and ranking third in the country with 11.3 rebounds per game.
Meanwhile, Medley paced the MAC with 6.4 assists per game.
Miami (OH)

Losses (0)
After finishing the regular season 31-0, the RedHawks have had three key players enter the portal.
Byers and Elmer were both starters, averaging 14.2 and 12.7 points per game, respectively. They both earned All-MAC Second Team honors.
Meanwhile, Perry started just one game but was seen by many as the possible starting point guard for Miami during his sophomore season.
Northern Illinois

Northern Illinois has seen four players enter the portal after the departure of head coach Rashon Burno.
Valentine is a massive entry for the Huskies. He led Northern Illinois with 13.3 points per game, 35.8% 3-point shooting, 69 3-pointers made and 29 steals last season.
However, head coach Matt Majkrzak has added two players from Northern Michigan, his last coaching stop.
Ohio

Losses (0)
Although Ohio and head coach Jeff Boals have seen four players enter the transfer portal, they combined to start just 31 games last season and were mostly role and depth players.
OU’s lone portal addition, Daugustino, earned Third Team All-Horizon honors last season, leading IU Indy with 18.5 points per game.
Toledo

Losses (0)
Toledo is one of the hardest hit teams by the transfer portal for the second straight season.
Blyden and Wilson were critical to Toledo’s success last season.
Blyden earned MAC Freshman of the Year and All-MAC Third Team honors, leading the Rockets with 40.7% 3-point shooting, 77 3-pointers made and 61 steals, while ranking second with 16.4 points per game.
Wilson, Blyden’s former high school teammate, earned All-MAC Second Team honors last season, pacing Toledo with 17.0 points and 4.6 assists per game.
UMass

Western Michigan

The Broncos are tied for the most transfer portal entries in the MAC after the departure of head coach Dwayne Stephens.
Swartz and Ryans were both starters for Western Michigan last season, averaging 7.7 and 7.5 points per game, respectively.
