BGSU baseball (15–20, 8–10 MAC) bounced back after a tough loss to Dayton Tuesday, launching a barrage of home runs to defeat Canisius (10–20, 7–8 MAAC) 9–3 Wednesday in Buffalo, New York.
The Falcons hit six home runs in the game—three shy of their program record—including two multi-homer performances from Andrew DiLodovico and TJ Takats. The other home runs came from Carter Mottice, who hit his first collegiate long ball, and Lance Vickers.
Luke Krouse delivered five solid innings for the Falcons, allowing four hits and two earned runs while walking two and striking out two.
Kade Arn was dominant out of the bullpen, pitching three innings, allowing just two hits and striking out seven.
The Falcons got off to a fast start, scoring three runs with the first three batters of the game.
Vickers reached base after being hit by a pitch, and Mottice followed with a two-run home run for the first runs of the game. DiLodovico then went back-to-back with a home run of his own to give the Falcons a 3–0 lead in the first inning.
The Griffins responded in the third. After a leadoff single from Blake Herman, Owen Silliman hit a two-run home run to cut the Falcons’ lead to one.
BGSU answered again in the fifth inning. DiLodovico led off with his second home run of the game. Later in the inning, Pauly Mancino singled with two outs, and Takats followed with a two-run homer—his first of the game—to extend the lead to 6–2.
Canisius added a run in the bottom half of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Eric Weeks, trimming the deficit to three.
The Falcons kept the momentum going in the sixth, as Vickers led off the inning with the team’s fifth home run of the game to push the lead back to four.
In the seventh, Takats launched his second home run of the game, another two-run shot, extending Bowling Green’s lead to six.
Canisius was held scoreless after the fifth inning, as Arn shut things down on the mound. Chase Clatur and Micah Smith closed out the game to secure the win and snap a three-game losing streak.
Next, the Falcons travel to Massachusetts for a three-game weekend series against the UMass Minutemen. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, 1 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday.
